I want to tell you all a story about this London Love t-shirt. I want to reminisce about the last time I was in London. I want to talk about the pop up vintage markets and Portobello market. I want to tell an amazing story about pouring over each and every booth of these markets and the things I found. I want to talk about the food I ate and the smells I smelled. I so badly want this shirt to be a  memorial of an amazing adventure that Joel and I were so lucky to take. I want this t-shirt to have history and meaning and I want the story to be sparkly and captivating. I want to wear this shirt to dinner parties and evenings out where said story would be retold and the shirt would be worn as a badge of my fashion findings honor.

But that would all be a steaming pile of… well… lies. This shirt is from the overly produced racks of Forever 21. It is one of millions. It is as generic as they come. And for the first two weeks after I bought it I told Joel it was from a street vendor in London. I was shopping shamed. But I still love the shirt. And it still makes me think of the wonderful trips we have taken London. And it still makes me smile. Even if it is from Forever 21.

The real story of our last trip to London- I shopping choked. I found an amazing Cath Kidston bag, a perfect dress from Liberty of London featuring their famous tiny floral print,  the most beautiful hand made leather jacket and an absolutely gorgeous cashmere capelet and with each find more outstanding and deserving of my shopping budget than the last I choked. I couldn’t pull the trigger and ended up coming home with nothing more than a pair of jeans from Primark (A European Forever 21) and regret. All the more reason to plan a trip back I suppose. Right Joel?

Living in a place with such harsh and unpredictable seasons is funny. In the Winter we can’t wait to wear summer clothes, in the summer all we want for is a 65 degree day when we can slip on jeans. It really messes with my wardrobe. Additionally on more than one occasion I have come down midsummer to find Harvey trying to slip on his Holiday bow-tie. Glad I am not alone in my wardrobe dysmorphia.

So today, even though all I want is to crank up the heat, slip on a pair of oversized jean shorts and a tank top and watch Blue Crush on repeat,  no judgement. Instead I am going to channel that time thcomes every summer. The day that I don’t want to shave my legs or be in a swim suit. The day I am tired of being hot and sweating through a tank top trying to walk from the Target parking lot into the reprieve of their air conditioning. The day when all you want is a hint of cool fall air. A need to throw tights on under your favorite dress. The day you buy new boots but know you won’t be able to wear then for 3 months. I am going to wear boots and tights. I am going to not shave my legs. I am going to enjoy picking out all of my cold weather accessories.

By gosh I am going to have a good attitude. Even though all I want to do is have a small temper tantrum and impulse book a trip to the Caribbean. I am going to enjoy wearing these tights and these boots knowing a day will come where I will want for this outfit. I am going to love layering a sweater over a flannel because someday soon layering a shirt over my bra is going to be too much. I am going to think positively.

However, I might impulse book a trip to the Caribbean.  I am not perfect.

What item of clothing are you dreaming of right now?

I know it is so trendy to hate Valentines Day. All the cool kids are doing it. They all ignore it and call it a Hallmark Holiday. But you know what, I am NOT on board with that train. I, Mallory Kirsten Lutz Kammeyer am a Holidayaholic. I love them all. But Valentines Day, well any holiday that encourages eating copious amounts of sweets (cupcakes, cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, OMGOMGOMG) and large glasses of champagne and wine in public, without judgment. Oh I am so in.

The thing I am not in for, the crowds. I am not a very patient person. In fact I am downright impatient. And the thing that makes my skin crawl the most (other than stand still traffic) is waiting for tables. In crowds. Of over-perfumed people. No thank you.

So this year, instead of getting in line at an over stuffed restaurant, my parents and Joel and I are celebrating Valentine’s Eve. Here is how you do it: You just go out on the evening before Valentine’s Day and then do everything the same as you would if it were Valentines Day. It’s amazing. And genius.

This is what I am wearing today and into the evening. I love it because it is wonderfully red but also such fun. The top and skirt are both from Target, both sale rack finds and both so stinkin cheap.

Don’t you worry though, we will still have our own little celebration tomorrow. Just in our own house. Where we rarely have to wait for a table. Unless Harvey is entertaining. But he isn’t seeing anyone this year. So we should be good.

Well, it’s Monday again. It seems no matter how many insults you throw its way, not matter how much you avoid it and ignore it’s very existence it just keeps showing up. Every week. However, one of my New Years Resolutions (read more about my thoughts on them here) was to embrace  Mondays or at least not be such a flipping slave to them.

So this Monday I am wearing a skirt ($12.99), some fun textured tights, and a great pair of boots. Because if there has to be a monday you might as well dress for it. The sweater has already made its debut in the 30 day $300 challenge (more here) and I am loving how versatile it has proven to be.

This Monday I am going to come out victorious. I am getting a lot of work done, I am hanging with Harvey who happens to be following my lead wearing a very fancy bow tie this Monday, I am headed to a new found favorite yoga class this evening with a good friend. The Bachelor is on this evening and I plan on wearing this hot pink stocking cap throughout all of my daily activities.

Total cost: Sweater:$11.00 //Skirt: $12.99//Hat:$3.99 Total:$27.98

Make your Monday absolutely amazing.

So for those of you not residing in KC, we got some snow. Like a lot of snow. Like 10+ inches of snow. And no one had to go to work, or run errands or even leave their house. It was amazing. Like 2 straight Christmas Days. And then it ended. Apparently the streets are clear and the time has come for us to all re-enter the world. But the snow is not gone. And the temperatures are not warmer and I don’t wanna.

But I must. I think I am forgetting how to interact with the human race (outside of Joel and Harvey). And we are out of milk. And Chocolate Ale was delivered to my local grocer this morning. And Macy’s is having a sale. That I can’t even participate in. Because I am not shopping for 30 days. So I will focus on the Chocolate Ale. Yum.

In any means dressing for this kind of cold is challenging. Especially when you are taking pictures of yourself and showing them to the world  interwebs. And even more so when you have limited your very vast wardrobe to a much smaller and less expensive set of clothes. But I faced the windchill and fashion won and I didn’t even have to use any animal prints.

The sweater and flannel were both Target sale rack finds and the skinnies were purchased on an American Eagle super sale just for this project. However, these jeans are so stinkin comfortable and fit so nicely that I may have to revisit their jean department. (You know, in 26 days) Watch out tweens: 30 year olds everywhere are going to storm American Eagles in search of these super soft, stretchy and oh-so-affordable jeans.

Total Cost: Flannel-$13//Sweater-$11//Denim-$20

Stay warm and fabulous. Until tomorrow darlings.

Sorry for being a bit out of focus today. I blame everything on the weather. Like Everything.

In case you are just joining us let me briefly sum up what you have missed:

I (the gal in the pics above) am Mallory.

I love clothes and i shop a lot. Like basically everyday.

My husband and my mom don’t think i can take 30 days off and make 30 days worth of outfits from just $300 worth of clothes.

I am flailing around here trying.

You are here reading about it.

We both probably need a snack at this point in our reading/writing.

Ok, so yesterday was day 1. Today is day 29, right? Ok, ok, i still have a ways to go. But the way  i see it is this little ‘project’ will be over JUST IN TIME for all the amazing Spring fashion to debut. Into my closet. Immediately. Watch out.

So today’s outfit joins us for the juniors department. Which is my next tip in thrift shopping. The juniors section is CHEAP. Like way cheaper than the adult section. Now truth be told, i can’t wear the bottoms from the junior section unless i am going to visit the salon for a quick wax (too much? too soon?) but the tops are cute and fun and don’t cause me to get a divorce. The only problem is everything runs a bit tinier. This little sweater is a Large. Its such a fun piece and i love the Zebra goes all the way around to the back. Its like he is hugging me all day.

The pants were found on a 75% off rack at Macy’s and even before this little adventure they were a go to of mine. Plus they are going to be amazing this spring with heels and a fun tank. I. Can’t. Wait.

Well i am off to lunch with a good friend who i know will enjoy my zebra sweater thoroughly. I hope you are all somewhere warm.

Enjoy your HUMP DAY!

Ok, so its time to get real. Not “Real World” real but real life real. I, Mallory Kirsten Lutz Kammeyer am a perpetual shopper. You might be thinking at this point-What in the heck is a perpetual shopper? Well it’s me. I have always had a ‘see-want-buy’ mentality. Ok, to be fair I have had a ‘see-want-buy-oh and throw in the ankle boots and that fabulous tank top oh and I didn’t even see that pair of boot socks, I have to have them-mentatlity. And usually I throw in a blazer for good measure (read more about my compulsive blazer purchasing here-is there a support group for that?)

So,  after a long talk with my mom (and loads of encouragement from Joel) we decided i should not only go on a spending diet but work to make a $300 wardrobe last me 30 days with no repeat outfits. Easy right-holy smokes so not easy. For the last 2 months I have scoured the sale racks or Target, Macy’s, TJ Maxx and beyond in search of really amazing (and cheap!) pieces to add to my ‘$300 dollar 30 day’ collection. I went, I shopped smart (and didn’t impulse buy) and for the next 30 days here I will be showing you what I have come up with. Oh and I won’t shop. Promise. 😉

This first outfit is entirely from Target-because I love Target, its a magical place. The sweatshirt was a left over from fall that I got for 11 dollars. HELLO! The shirt underneath is amazing and at $14.99 full price you just can’t hardly beat it (but right now it is on sale for 11 too so I guess you can beat it). I love the way they look layered up and if it weren’t for the snow today here in KC I would have thrown them on with a fabulous little skater skirt that you will be seeing more of this month. The jeans are Mossimo-boyfriend jeans.  I once had a pair of Mossimo overall shorts. I wore them incessantly for years and years, well beyond both the age and time of overalls had passed me by… Anyway, Boyfriend jeans are my best friend. They are cozy, they look stylish and they kinda feel like sweats.

Total cost of this outfit: $56. Only because I bought full price denim…

Ok, darlings, let’s see what tomorrow brings-on a budget.

We need to talk. I mean seriously. I am turning 30 in a few (like less than two) short months. I am not stressed out about this. My life has been amazing and I assume it will go on being amazing regardless of what number my age starts with. The only thing I worry about is my wardrobe. Does it have to change after the big birthday? Can I still wear jean shorts in the summer? Can I still pull off a mini skirt? Can I still get by with a bikini? Most importantly do I have to forgo the 2014 crop top trend?

I haven’t figured out the answers to any of these yet. So I decided to go ahead and jump on the crop top train before the birthday, you know, just in case. This crop is actually a yoga shirt. I love a multi purpose item. I have worn super casually for yoga but I also love it just as much with a silk maxi. Now that is one heck of a two-for (read toofur).

It’s true you can’t actually see any skin in this crop, but it is still winter, and 30 is still breathing down my neck. But the only thing I like about rules is breaking them. So don’t be too surprised when I show up on here and in your real life in a true crop top with skin and all well after said birthday. Cause why the heck not.

Have a beautiful day. Break some rules!

Sometimes getting dressed really gets the best of me. I love clothes so much, I love putting outfits together so much, I love trying new combinations so much that once in a while (like most days) I get a bit carried away. I want to layer, I want a tall sock, I want amazing jewelry, maybe even a scarf, I want textured tights and I want to mix prints and sometimes it all becomes too much.

I forget sometimes the beauty of a simple flannel and jeans. I forget that you can look amazing in something so simple. I forget the joy of an undisturbed pair of red boots. I forget how nice my neck feels when it doesn’t have to hold up a scarf or a pendant necklace for the most of the day. I forget that some days you just feel like being a little less showy and a little more cozy.

Last week I had some errands to run. I didn’t have to be anywhere spectacular, just running around town, doing a bit of shopping, enjoying my afternoon. And when I went to get dressed I threw on this flannel with a leopard print cashmere over top and an amazing black pendant necklace, a fabulous pleated green skirt, black tights and over the knee boots. I looked cute. I looked stylish. I looked fabulous even. But I also looked uncomfortable. Yes, fashion sometimes does mean suffering for fabulousness and I am all for a pair of 5 inch ‘dinner only’ heels that make my legs look like Giselle rather then a korgi. But for errands on a Thursday-did I really need it all?
So I changed. And I was happy. And warm. And cozy. And I still looked cute. And I still mixed prints. And I still felt pretty darn fabulous. Sometimes too much is just, well, too much. Even when a toned down version of ourselves includes red boots, floral jeans, a flannel and a leopard print belt.

What is your favorite cozy-yet stylish look?

You know the days when you wake up and you have to be somewhere and you wonder if you could get away with a pajama pant and a thermal top and an Ugg slipper as long as your hair and make up are done? I tried it once. Apparently people notice. Which was kind of rude.

This outfit was my answer to the “I am absolutely not getting dressed today” temper tantrum. Flannel Tunic (that looks suspiciously like a pajama top, hmmm)-check, fleece lined puffer vest-check, motorcycle boots that I have worn literally every single day for the last two weeks because OMG it needs to be spring so my feet can breath-check.

Some days I wish I were Harvey (the handsome devil running around the in the pics above), he just rolls off his Tempurpedic doggie bed each morning, gets his belly scrubbed by his humans, throws on his favorite, fanciest bowtie and goes about his day. Oh, and EVERYONE is impressed.

Until then, I suppose my oversized flannel shirt will have to do…

What is your go to-I don’t want to wear anything but I have to-outfit?

Until the next outfit,
