Well, it’s Monday again. It seems no matter how many insults you throw its way, not matter how much you avoid it and ignore it’s very existence it just keeps showing up. Every week. However, one of my New Years Resolutions (read more about my thoughts on them here) was to embrace  Mondays or at least not be such a flipping slave to them.

So this Monday I am wearing a skirt ($12.99), some fun textured tights, and a great pair of boots. Because if there has to be a monday you might as well dress for it. The sweater has already made its debut in the 30 day $300 challenge (more here) and I am loving how versatile it has proven to be.

This Monday I am going to come out victorious. I am getting a lot of work done, I am hanging with Harvey who happens to be following my lead wearing a very fancy bow tie this Monday, I am headed to a new found favorite yoga class this evening with a good friend. The Bachelor is on this evening and I plan on wearing this hot pink stocking cap throughout all of my daily activities.

Total cost: Sweater:$11.00 //Skirt: $12.99//Hat:$3.99 Total:$27.98

Make your Monday absolutely amazing.

In the September issue of Glamour in 2005 they ran an article called 30 things you should have and know by the time your 30. 21 year old Mallory poured over this one sheet list again and again. I tore it out and I kept it. I made copies as people in my life turned 30. I thought I was spreading some sort of magical wisdom for them to take into their next decade.

I am now turning 30 in t-3 months. And as I look back reflectively over the last 10 years I think the list has lost a bit of its luster. I have crossed off everything on it-except for a nice umbrella. I never could commit to paying more than $10 for an umbrella that I would inevitably lose. Or break. Or break and then leave in my car for months only to remember it was broken when it rained and I needed it.

So the big question is this-am I ready to turn 30? Have I mastered the 20s? Am I where I thought I would be?
My answers-WHO CARES? I have lived and I have loved, I have made mistakes and I have learned. I have taken adventures and discovered new places. I have married (when this was totally not in 21 year old Mallorys vision), I have grown. I have fought for what I wanted and learned the art of compromise. I have failed on both small and large scales. I have gotten dream jobs and I have been unafraid to quit a good thing. I have taken chances. I have suffered great loss as well as losses that I thought were great at the time. I have had disappointments. I have worn amazing clothes and I have bought the shoes. It was a great 10 years and I wouldn’t change a thing.

So my advice to you-no matter what milestone you are coming upon is this:
Do things you love-the things that make you happy- everyday.

Fall totally in love-with a man (or women), with a dog, with a smell, with a magical city, with a day in time, with a pair of shoes, with the most fabulous of leather jackets, with an old pair of sweatpants, with whatever makes your little heart sing-remind yourself everyday why you love it. Relive the love.

Don’t worry so much about your hair. Some days you are going to win and some days it is going to win. That is just the way life goes. And that is why god (or whoever you’re into) made tops knots and sock buns.

Get outside. Notice just how incredibly awesome the world around you is.

Take pictures and write things down. You will want to remember this.

Don’t worry so much if the scale goes up or the pants are a bit tighter. Just breathe and be healthier today than you were yesterday. Unless you need a cookie. Then eat it. Cause cookies can solve 94% of the world’s problems.

Take adventures. Lots of them. Take land adventures and air adventures and aquatic adventures. Participate in life. Whatever that means to you.

Do new and scary things. And live in that fear for a moment of two. Just marinate in it.

Enjoy every day, every cupcake, every walk, every phone call, every moment of every day.

Most importantly, don’t follow someone else’s list. Make your own, or don’t. Just live amazingly. Oh and wear the striped shirt with the floral skirt. Why the heck not.

Tomorrow I will be a bit briefer. Thanks for hanging with me.

I love prints. I love mixing a print or 3. I love the surprise of a plaid cuff of a button up shirt and a polka dot sweater. I love a leopard print with a camo (I love a leopard print or a camo with ANYTHING truth be told). There is something about looking down and seeing a polka dot tight and a striped sweater that brings a bit of jolly to my otherwise dead of winter, can’t feel my toes, why didn’t I stay at home in yoga pants and Husbands KU sweatshirt day. And let’s be honest. It’s the little things in life.

plaids and polka dots

This plaid shirt has become my go to this winter. Every summer my brain and my body reset and I forget just how chilly it can get here in KC. The flannel came out in October worn with its sleeves rolled and has slowly morphed into the most fashionable undershirt I own. Sure, layered under an oversized cream cable knit its great. The picture of ski lodge perfection. But layered under this black and white playful sweater it is just (so not) plain fun and maybe a little dizzying. I paired it with Jeggings which I was totally against until I put them on realized that we were infact meant for each other. They are so comfy and they actually tuck nicely into boots. And when you have calves like mine, you need all the help you getting into boots that you can get.

This outfit is made for casual Mondays. Is that a thing yet? Mr. and Mrs. Corporate American-if you are out there-please let casual Monday become a thing. It would be magical. We could all mix prints and be warm and cozy and happy and wear jeggings together. Please.

What prints are your favorite to mix?

Have a Happy Weekend!
