I have never bought into the whole label thing. I wasn’t one to carry expensive purses and need the newest or best one. The only thing I look for in a purse is something that makes me jolly and will carry all of my things. And when i say all, i mean all. Like right now, if you were to dump my purse onto the ground you would find two full sized notebooks, one planner, several chapsticks, a huge wallet, some loose money, at least 2 pairs of sunnies, a dog leash, a magazine, a mascara, hand sanitizer, headphones, a lanyard with my gym pass on it, whatever jewelry i wore yesterday, 12,432 receipts, a packet of tissues, a red box movie a flier to my boutiques up coming trunk show and a bottle of water. Basically if i ever need to leave the country in a rush i am set, well except Joel doesn’t allow me to keep my passport. I lost it once twice, both times were right before big trips. Oops.

Anywho, one day when Joel and I were having dinner on the Plaza here in Kansas City, we wandered down to the Kate Spade store. I had never owned anything Kate Spade. She is well out of my league, but i had always enjoyed the sense of joy that the brand brought to an otherwise expensive and rather boring world that is handbags. (Hello-remember this one??)Unknown

Well that stroll through the store led me to this little beauty. Obviously i loved the print. Gorgeous. And the size. And the fact that it has a cross body strap. Which means it allows for activities while still carrying all of my things. Basically it was like me if i were a purse. And I knew i wanted it.

So last weekend I was back on the plaza and I decided to check in on my little friend and sure enough she was the last of her kind, sitting there alone on the shelf. It was like a fashion sign. So being the selfless little fashionista that I am I decided to adopt her and give her a forever home. And so far things are going well. She holds everything, She really pulls an outfit together. She is absolutely gorgeous and she even matches some of Harveys accessories.

What are you dreaming of for spring?

I know, I know. I totally disappeared right in the middle of our no shopping, wearing only clothing from our $300 wardrobe month. But for good reason.

Last Thursday, my mom and I packed our car and headed to a very strange place called Wichita to sell clothes, talk fashion, eat carni food and basically get out of town for a minute. We were at the Women’s Fair, an annual event. We had a booth for our boutique @jollly’s.  We saw the Flint Hills and a fast-food ‘fresh seafood’ restaurant. In Kansas. (Sorry to report we didn’t try it out…) We met a lot of people. Some of them awesome. Some of them strange. We were in a fashion show-well we weren’t but our clothes were. My mom bought me Toms wedges for my birthday which are the CUTEST EVER. We sampled lots of roasted nuts. We made countless phone calls home to check on the  husbands and dogs. I FaceTime’d Harvey twice. We watched one Lifetime movie. We made new friends. We traveled a lot of miles. We drank too many cups of coffee. And we had so much fun.

If you have a mom, go give her a hug or a high five. Or both. Weekends like this make me realize how lucky I am, as well as my four brothers, Harvey, my husband and my brothers wives/girlfriends that we all get to have such a great lady in our lives. So mom, thanks for taking adventures with me.

For most of the weekend, we were wearing 1 of 3 things: our jammies (which unknowingly we packed matching jammies- VS pink flannels that Joel says make me look like the easter bunny), our travel clothes which consisted of sweats and oversized t-shirts from past trips to the Carribean, or skinny jeans and tank tops that we are able to throw different things from @jolly’s on over throughout the day. Needless to say it is hard getting back into the swing of, you know, getting dressed.

Since we are in our last week of no shopping I decided I would spice monday up with the one and only ZEBRA sweater. I love this sweater, if you recall from the previous post (read more here) this guy is from the jr. department of Macy’s. It was practically free. And it brings me such joy.

What are you all wearing today to bring Joy to the world?

Glad to be back!

PS Total cost of this outfit: $45.98 plus only one week left until I get my wardrobe back! Read about the project here.

Well, it’s Monday again. It seems no matter how many insults you throw its way, not matter how much you avoid it and ignore it’s very existence it just keeps showing up. Every week. However, one of my New Years Resolutions (read more about my thoughts on them here) was to embrace  Mondays or at least not be such a flipping slave to them.

So this Monday I am wearing a skirt ($12.99), some fun textured tights, and a great pair of boots. Because if there has to be a monday you might as well dress for it. The sweater has already made its debut in the 30 day $300 challenge (more here) and I am loving how versatile it has proven to be.

This Monday I am going to come out victorious. I am getting a lot of work done, I am hanging with Harvey who happens to be following my lead wearing a very fancy bow tie this Monday, I am headed to a new found favorite yoga class this evening with a good friend. The Bachelor is on this evening and I plan on wearing this hot pink stocking cap throughout all of my daily activities.

Total cost: Sweater:$11.00 //Skirt: $12.99//Hat:$3.99 Total:$27.98

Make your Monday absolutely amazing.

the time I had to go outside

So for those of you not residing in KC, we got some snow. Like a lot of snow. Like 10+ inches of snow. And no one had to go to work, or run errands or even leave their house. It was amazing. Like 2 straight Christmas Days. And then it ended. Apparently the streets are clear and the time has come for us to all re-enter the world. But the snow is not gone. And the temperatures are not warmer and I don’t wanna.

But I must. I think I am forgetting how to interact with the human race (outside of Joel and Harvey). And we are out of milk. And Chocolate Ale was delivered to my local grocer this morning. And Macy’s is having a sale. That I can’t even participate in. Because I am not shopping for 30 days. So I will focus on the Chocolate Ale. Yum.

In any means dressing for this kind of cold is challenging. Especially when you are taking pictures of yourself and showing them to the world  interwebs. And even more so when you have limited your very vast wardrobe to a much smaller and less expensive set of clothes. But I faced the windchill and fashion won and I didn’t even have to use any animal prints.

The sweater and flannel were both Target sale rack finds and the skinnies were purchased on an American Eagle super sale just for this project. However, these jeans are so stinkin comfortable and fit so nicely that I may have to revisit their jean department. (You know, in 26 days) Watch out tweens: 30 year olds everywhere are going to storm American Eagles in search of these super soft, stretchy and oh-so-affordable jeans.

Total Cost: Flannel-$13//Sweater-$11//Denim-$20

Stay warm and fabulous. Until tomorrow darlings.

I dress for Girls

The clothes:                                                                                                             Sweater-JCrew old-similar here                                                                                Pants-Macys old-similar here                                                                                    Heels-Nine West from a Haute Look Sale (If you aren’t signed up WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, it’s amazing) check it out here                                                                  Necklace-Stella and Dot

There are three kinds of women in this world-those that dress for men, those who dress for women and those who could not possibly care less (I have heard these people exist although I would be completely intolerable to them so naturally I don’t know any). I, obviously dress for women. I love fashion, I love taking chances and for the most party my husband doesn’t like/care/notice what I wear. Unless its new. He ALWAYS can sniff out a new item. Its rude. And amazing.

The day I wore this outfit I had a happy hour planned with one of my favorite people. Her name is Laura, she is engaged, she is a blogger-check her out here, and, well, she is just plain awesome. She also gave me one of the best compliments I have ever received. In our first year together she told me I make her want to dress better. It still brings a tear to my eye. And a whole lot of pressure to deliver an amazing outfit that looks effortless and original every single time I see her (which is a LOT). Some would crumble under the pressure. This is where I thrive. This is where amazing outfits are born.
I love the unexpected mix of this cozy knit and the army pant all brought together with the studded heel. Maybe others hate it, but I had a feeling she might be impressed. And if not she at least has the good manners to not tell me to my face. That’s not true, she would totally tell me. And probably blog about it.

Unfortunately she came down with a bad cold and wasn’t able to meet up so she is seeing the outfit right now with you all for the very first time. So Laura-if your reading this let me know your thoughts.

What do you all think?
